Christian Hamm
Execution is Everything
Born in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Christian moved to Surrey, BC shortly after where he grew up in a family of 6, went to school K-12, played competitive team sports and continues to reside there with a family of his own today.
From a young age Christian was surrounded by all things construction. Shortly after finishing BCIT his father began a lifelong career in specialty contracting focusing on the industrial and commercial sectors. Immediately after high school, Christian did much the same when he picked up the tools and began building multi family homes while studying Business at Trinity Western University. The combination of this practical hands on experience in the field and theoretical management education led him to pursue construction Project Management.
Christian continued his educational endeavours, albeit getting paid in the process, after joining Northland Properties, Canada’s fast growing hospitality group and one of the nations most recognizable brands. It was here that he learned the ins and outs of Project Coordination by being exposed to the finest of details any construction company or project could offer. Three years later, and after a short time away during which Christian travelled to many parts of the world and participated in an overseas building project, he joined Beedie as a Project Manager. Both the professionalism and culture of the organization, as well as exposure to projects from inception to completion, helped shape his Project Management ability and further developed his desire to build a career in construction.
After spending significant time within the construction divisions of these two prominent real estate developers in Vancouver, BC, Christian determined it was best to gain experience from a pure general contractor. What would proved to be another pivotal time in his career, transitioning from Project Management into Corporate Development, including a company-wide brand refresh, it was during this time that Christian began to engage with another area of interest, the tech industry. Since reading the first editions of Fast Company in the mid-90’s, he has been fascinated by the way in which technology iterates and disrupts entire industries and organizational ecosystems. Shortly after receiving a newspaper article about the launch of a construction technology startup, from his mother at a family breakfast, Christian met with founder James Faulkner and became an advisor to SiteMax Systems.
In the summer of 2017, SiteMax became an independent startup at which time Christian joined the team full time as COO to add expertise in scaling the business to its target customers. It was at this time that SiteMax also received angel investment and continued its journey towards product market fit. As of January 2019, SiteMax has closed subsequent Seed financing, and continues nationwide expansion and further development of existing customers in the US.
Christian and his wife have been married for 7 years, and together they have 3 kids. Both are actively involved in their community and local church, in which they were founding members, and are driven to make a ongoing difference through their respective spheres of influence. While Christian continues to be an active participant in many sports, he has enjoyed passing the baton to his kids, coaching their teams and nurturing their competitive spirit. His passion for the built world, the notion of seeing “nothing become something” and the bringing together of people and teams is un-ending. After being told early in his career that construction will always be chaotic, Christian remains laser-focused on bringing simple, powerful solutions to an industry where people are in great need of the most practical, helpful tools available to them.
